Today we checked out of our hotel, picked up our rental car, and headed for the Waterford Castle. Harry drove and I navigated. Unfortunately, I had the wrong destination in the GPS and spent about 30 minutes driving around in circles before I got it worked out and we got out of Dublin and headed south. We stopped in Kilkenny for lunch. Linda, Amanda, and I had Irish stew and Harry had fish and chips. Very good food at a neat pub. Afterwards Linda and Amanda went shopping in the Medevial area of Kilkenny. I stopped at a local Turkish barber shop that offered haircuts and a full lathered shave and a massage. So I treated myself to all three while the ladies were shopping.
I will say Harry has done a wonderful job driving over here. He has not scared anyone
.
After we left Kilkenny we drove to the Waterford Crystal Company. While the ladies were looking around, I was too. There are some beautiful and expensive cut glass dishes, ornaments, trophies, and other objects on display here. The atmosphere is very quiet and businesslike. Then I picked up an item to see what the price was. You can imagine my shock when the item I was holding fell from my grasp and shattered on the tile floor, with the very loud sound of broken glass. It was an accident, I did not mean to. It seemed as if everyone in the store was looking at me. I know what they were thinking..."I am glad it was not me that broke the Waterford Crystal". I was very embarrassed. I told the young lady I was sorry and would pay for the damages. She told me not to worry, that was not the first item broken here. But then she made me feel worse when she said that most of the time they have to look out for small children. I tried to put this behind me and we headed for the Waterford Castle.
If you have not been here, it is a beautiful castle on a secluded island. Construction started around 1170 and has been modified and added to through the years. We had our dinner meal in the main dining room at the castle. A delightful evening and a welcome change from a diet of pub food.
Tomorrow we will leave here and drive to Kenmare on the Dingle Peninsula and will be there 4 nights.
